The hidden impact of pet hair on your air and dryer ducts Pets are a source of endless joy, companionship, and love in our homes. Pet hair is a part of life, and it's inevitable. Many of us are used to seeing pet hair on our clothes, furniture, and blankets. However, we don't always realize how much it can affect less visible areas in the home. We recently had to clean the carpets and vents of a house with an especially affectionate cat. We found a lot of pet hair in the air ducts, dryer ducts, and carpets. Air Ducts and Pet Hair By circulating air, air ducts are vital to keeping your home healthy and comfortable. Over time, pet hair can build up in these ducts, as well as dust and other debris. This buildup can reduce airflow and efficiency in your home, as well as impact the air quality. Vacuuming regularly over vents with a vacuum attachment is a simple way to maintain the airflow. It is important to remove surface debris from the ductwork before it can be pulled further into it. Every 3-5 years, professional cleaning of your air ducts is recommended to ensure they are working optimally. Professional cleaning of your air ducts will not only remove debris but also sanitize them to remove any bacteria, mold, or dirt that has settled over the years. Pet Hair and Dryer ducts When you wash blankets and clothes, pet hair can also get into the laundry. It will then accumulate in your dryer ducts with lint. The lint filter in your dryer will catch some of the hair, but most of it will bypass the filter and end up in the duct venting outside your home. This can cause blockages that are not only annoying but also dangerous. The dryer will have to work harder and longer if the dryer duct is clogged. This additional strain can damage your dryer motor and increase energy bills.
